Many users have been asking Apple for lyrics to be displayed on the lock screen when playing music since the early days of iOS, but now Apple has finally implemented this feature, but only within the Apple Music app, not on the lock screen.
Viewing lyrics in Apple Music is as simple as activating the actions menu in the bottom right hand corner of the song’s ‘Now Playing’ panel and selecting ‘Lyrics’. Of course, lyrics are only available on the latest album/single releases, so for older versions of songs, we’ll have to add them manually, as we’ll discuss later.
Apple Music’s lyrics feature in China is later than abroad, and some users have found that the lyrics of individual songs include some homemade lyrics, such as the words “This song is dedicated to whoever” at the beginning, which makes you wonder about Apple’s source of lyrics and whether it uses automatic lyric capture technology.
According to industry sources.
The fragmentation of lyric rights is a major problem, with some in the hands of record labels, some with songwriters, and some lyric rights agencies specialising in them, and the scope of the licence poses localisation problems. All of this can lead to Apple Music’s lyrics feature being slower than third-party players, but in the long run, licensed is also an ultimate solution. Previous copyright battles over domestic video stations have validated this issue.
We can also view the lyrics on the iTunes desktop for macOS, simply by invoking the ‘Play on/History’ menu on the right hand side of the playback module, which will give us the full lyrics for the song.
If a song doesn’t have lyrics by default, we can also add them manually by selecting a song in iTunes, then finding ‘Edit – Show Info’ in the app’s menu bar, calling up the song info window and pasting a copy of the lyrics in the ‘Lyrics’ field.
