Aside from the AirTag, the colourful iMac was a bit of a shakedown (compared to the purple iPhone 12 and M1 iPad Pro). The Macbook Pro is priced at the same level as the M1 Macbook Pro, and the higher end is priced from ¥11,499, with an increase in hard drive capacity and number of ports over the lower end, with orders available from April 30th and a public launch in mid to late May.
Price
When we talk about desktop machines, Mac mini is the lowest cost of ownership, with a display and non-Apple keyboard and mouse kit for less than $2000. If you were as impulsive as I am and chose the LG 4K screen and Magic peripheral set for Mac mini, the price would be more than $1.2 w for the optional memory and hard drive, so which is the better deal? But I still don’t regret choosing the Mac mini, mainly because I like its shape, and I like the colour scheme of the LG 4K and Dark Sky Grey Magic peripherals.
The M1 iMac has the same hardware options strategy as my previous Mac mini M1, starting with 8GB of RAM with 16GB options and a hard drive SSD starting at 256GB with 512GB/1TB/2TB options.
Colours
The new colour options are a bold departure from the usual silver + dark sky grey partnership, offering users an additional blue, green, pink, yellow, orange and purple. 23333
Interface
Don’t cry just yet, there are still trade-offs to be made.
The lower trim comes with two Thunderbolt (USB 4) ports.
The high end has two more USB 3 ports and a Gigabit Ethernet port on top of that.
Nah? Doesn’t the low end come with a fixed network? Only WIFI?
Form factor
The new iMac is still a retina display with a 4.5K screen and a focus line length of 23.5. This is a higher resolution (4480 x 2520 (218 ppi)) than the LG Ultrafine 4K (23.7″) I got earlier in the year, which has a resolution of 3840 x 2160. Wide colour gamut (P3), primary colour display technology.
The ultra-slim body is like an oversized iPad Pro on a shelf, and is 6mm thicker than the 11″ iPad Pro (5.9mm). To emphasise its minimalist design and ultra-thin vibe, Apple has done a number of things.
1. a magnetically-attached power connector, followed by a braided power cable in the same colour as the body
1. a magnetically-attached power connector, behind which is a braided power cable of the same colour as the body, which is not easily visible to the user from the front, and which also passes through a wide hole in the middle of the rear bracket.
2. 3.5mm headphone jack is hidden on the bezel
The power button is still at the back and the speaker is below the bezel. 3.
3. the Ethernet port has been integrated into the charger!
Since the slim body can no longer accommodate the yet-to-be-changed size of the Ethernet port, Apple’s designers have, in a stroke of genius, moved the port to the charger, solving the problem and removing an aesthetically distracting cable from the body – a double whammy! Now the only cable left on the back is the power cable!
4. SD card port removed
All previous iMacs have had an SD card reader insert, but this time it’s no longer possible to use the slim body as a shield, so why does the 3.5mm headphone jack stay?
Other ports
It has a front-facing camera with 1080p resolution
It’s served up by the M1’s on-chip image signal processor (ISP) and I can’t describe how clear it is, so here’s a picture.
Studio-quality built-in microphone
In line with Apple’s boast, the built-in microphone is studio-quality, with three microphones in an array designed to make it ideal for recording podcasts with multiple people sitting together, reducing sound rejection and minimising interference from all parties in the conversation, making for a more enjoyable chat.
Six speakers
With six built-in hi-fi speakers and Dolby Atmos-quality sound, the new iMac is the first to feature Spatial Audio technology on the Mac.
The first iMac with WiFi 6
Like the previously announced M1 Mac family, the iMac 24 also supports 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 wireless networking (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac compatible).
About the Wonder Keyboard
The keyboard that comes with the iMac 24 is differentiated for different users, with the entry-level 9999 keyboard not having Touch ID and the advanced version (8-core CPU, 8-core GPU) only coming with the iMac 24 keyboard with Touch ID. It’s only available on the iMac 24″ colour range at the moment.
But I’ve always wondered why Apple never gave Macs Face ID.
When you buy an iMac 24, remember to include a Mac keyboard, a Mac mouse, a 143W power adapter, a two-metre power cable and a USB-C to lightning cable in the box.
Outlook
From this launch and the smell of the official website, it is clear that Apple’s positioning of this machine is the same as the previous 21.5″ iMac, light office, light development, light design, deep entertainment, actively attracting Win users to switch camps, covering a wider range of people, but times have progressed and even the entry iMac can meet most of your needs, still still looking forward to the second half of the legendary The media are now in agreement that the second half of the year will see a performance version with an XDR Display (Mini LED) screen.
